Description

A collection of four simple recipes for homemade dog treats, including bacon-wrapped treats, paw print cookies, bone-shaped oat treats, and beef jerky strips.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup rolled oats (processed into a coarse flour)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted natural peanut butter (xylitol-free)
  • 1 large egg
  • 8 slices low-sodium bacon (cut in half crosswise)
  • 1 ripe banana (mashed thoroughly)
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup coconut oil (melted)
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups rolled oats
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup low-sodium chicken broth
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 pound lean beef sirloin or round steak

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C); mix oat flour, peanut butter, and egg into a thick dough; roll into marble-sized balls and flatten slightly; wrap each ball with a half-strip of bacon; bake for 20 to 25 minutes until bacon is crisp and internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C); cool completely on a wire rack.
  2. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C); whisk mashed banana, melted coconut oil, applesauce, and vanilla until smooth; stir in flour to form a soft dough without overmixing; roll to 1/4-inch thickness and cut with a paw-print cutter; bake for 12 to 15 minutes until edges are golden but centers remain soft; cool on pan for 5 minutes then transfer to a wire rack.
  3. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C); pulse oats into a coarse meal and combine with flour, chicken broth, olive oil, and egg to form a stiff dough; roll to 1/4-inch thickness and cut into bone shapes; bake for 20 to 25 minutes flipping halfway through; cool completely on the pan until hardened.
  4. Preheat oven to lowest setting (170°F/75°C or 200°F/95°C with door propped open); trim fat from beef and slice against grain into 1/4-inch thick strips; arrange in a single layer on a wire rack; bake for 3 to 4 hours until dry, dark, and crackling when bent; cool completely to crisp up.
