Description
A hearty, comforting meal featuring tender cabbage leaves simmered with ground beef, onions, and garlic in a savory sauce.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound lean ground beef (85% lean or higher)
- 1 large green cabbage (cored and cut into 1-inch wedges or roughly chopped chunks)
- 1 medium yellow onion (diced)
- 3 cloves garlic (minced)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil or butter
- 1 cup beef broth or water
- 1 teaspoon salt (plus more to taste)
- ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- ½ teaspoon smoked paprika (optional, for depth)
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar or lemon juice (to brighten flavors)
Instructions
- Brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat until deeply browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain excess grease if necessary.
- Add diced onion and cook until translucent, then stir in minced garlic and cook for one minute until fragrant.
- Season the meat mixture with salt, pepper, and paprika. Add the chopped cabbage and toss to coat evenly in the fat and spices.
- Pour in the beef broth and vinegar, scraping the bottom of the pan to release browned bits. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 10-15 minutes until cabbage is tender.
- Remove from heat, adjust seasoning, and serve hot.
