Description

A lighter take on traditional lasagna using delicate crêpes instead of pasta sheets, layered with seasoned ground beef and a creamy cheese sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 pound lean ground beef (85% lean)
  • 1 medium yellow onion (finely diced)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups whole milk
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Prepare the crêpes by whisking flour, egg, milk, butter, and salt. Cook in a skillet until thin and set.
  2. Sauté onion and garlic in olive oil, then brown the ground beef. Season with oregano, basil, pepper, and red pepper flakes.
  3. Make the cheese sauce by melting butter, whisking in flour, slowly adding milk, and stirring in mozzarella and Parmesan until smooth.
  4. Assemble the lasagna in a 9×13 inch dish by layering crêpes, beef mixture, and cheese sauce, repeating until ingredients are used.
  5. Bake covered at 375°F for 25 minutes, then uncovered for 10-15 minutes until bubbly and golden. Rest for 10 minutes before serving.
