  • Author: Sofia
  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

A traditional stromboli featuring layers of spiced pepperoni slices and melted low-moisture mozzarella rolled tightly inside golden pizza dough.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb standard prepared pizza dough (room temperature)
  • 1.5 cups shredded low-moisture whole milk mozzarella cheese
  • 4 oz thinly sliced pepperoni ((about 35 to 40 slices))
  • 1/4 cup thick marinara or pizza sauce ((plus extra for serving))
  • 1 large egg (beaten with 1 tbsp water)
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (204°C) and line an 18×13-inch rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Roll the pizza dough out on a lightly floured surface into a 10×14-inch rectangle of uniform thickness.
  3. Spread 1/4 cup marinara sauce evenly over the dough, leaving an untouched 1-inch border along all four edges.
  4. Layer the shredded mozzarella evenly over the sauce, then arrange the pepperoni slices in a flat layer across the cheese.
  5. Roll the dough tightly lengthwise into a cylinder, tuck both short ends underneath to seal the interior, and transfer seam-side down onto the baking sheet.
  6. Brush the exterior with egg wash, sprinkle with dried oregano, slice three diagonal 1/2-inch steam vents across the top, and bake for 22 to 25 minutes until deep golden brown; rest 5 minutes before slicing.

Keywords: Turkey pepperoni can replace pork pepperoni without adjusting bake time. For a dairy-free alternative, substitute a meltable plant-based mozzarella style shred.
