Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef (85/15 lean-to-fat ratio)
  • ½ cup plain breadcrumbs
  • ¼ cup whole milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 small yellow onion (finely diced)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 8 ounces cremini or button mushrooms (sliced)
  • 3 cups beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley (chopped)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F. Mix breadcrumbs and milk, then combine with beef, egg, onion, garlic, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire. Roll into 16-18 balls and place on a baking sheet.
  2. Bake meatballs for 15-18 minutes until firm and lightly browned.
  3. Sauté mushrooms in olive oil until browned. Add garlic and cook briefly.
  4. Sprinkle flour over mushrooms, stir, then slowly whisk in beef broth and thyme. Simmer until thickened.
  5. Add baked meatballs to the gravy, cover, and simmer on low for 10-15 minutes until cooked through. Garnish with parsley.
