A winter twist on classic muddy buddies with crispy rice cereal, rich melted chocolate, creamy peanut butter, and refreshing peppermint.

- 9 cups Rice Chex cereal
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1/2 tsp pure peppermint extract
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup finely crushed peppermint candy canes ((about 4 to 5 standard candy canes))
Instructions
- Place the Rice Chex cereal into a very large mixing bowl and line a large rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a medium microwave-safe bowl, combine the chocolate chips, creamy peanut butter, and unsalted butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals at 50 percent power, stirring between bursts, until completely smooth (about 90 seconds total). Stir in the pure peppermint extract until fully incorporated.
- Immediately pour the warm chocolate mixture over the Rice Chex. Using a broad rubber spatula, gently fold from the bottom of the bowl upward until all cereal squares are evenly coated, taking care not to crush the pieces.
- Add half of the powdered sugar and half of the crushed candy canes into a clean 2-gallon zip-top bag. Transfer the warm coated cereal into the bag, then top with the remaining powdered sugar and crushed candy canes.
- Seal the bag securely, trapping a pocket of air inside. Gently shake and turn the bag for 30 to 45 seconds until every piece is coated in white sugar. Spread the puppy chow across the prepared baking sheet in a single layer and let it rest for 20 minutes to set before serving.
