Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup canola oil
  • 1 medium shallot, finely diced
  • 4 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 3 tablespoons dried minced onion
  • 1 tablespoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 tablespoon kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a medium skillet, heat canola oil over medium-high heat. Add the diced shallots and minced garlic once hot. Stir well.
  2. When bubbling (after 1-2 minutes), reduce the heat to medium-low.
  3. Cook until fragrant and golden brown (20-25 minutes), stirring occasionally.
  4. In a small bowl, mix dried minced onion, red pepper flakes, kosher salt, chili powder, and paprika.
  5. Using a fine-mesh strainer over another bowl, pour the garlic mixture to separate solids from oil.
  6. After cooling for about 20–30 minutes, add the crispy bits back into the strained oil mixture.
  7. Transfer to a clean jar with a tight-fitting lid and store at room temperature.
